Find a Mason in Ottawa

Tell us about your brick or stone job and we will send your request to local Ottawa masons, who reply to you by email.

Fields marked * are required. No phone number needed — your matches reply by email. Your request is shared only with the contractors we send it to.

How It Works

  • Tell us what you need: repointing, spalled brick replacement, stone or brick veneer, heritage masonry, steps, a garden wall, or stone wall repair
  • We send your request on to local masons in the Ottawa Construction Network directory
  • They reply to you by email to arrange a look at the wall and a written quote
  • Compare quotes, ask questions and decide if it is the right fit, with no obligation

What to Check Before You Hire

  • A written quote that names the area or number of bricks, the mortar type, and how the old joints come out (by hand or with a grinder)
  • How dust is controlled: silica dust from grinding mortar is a regulated workplace hazard, and controlling it is your mason's job
  • What the quote includes for scaffolding, and for hauling away and disposing of old mortar and brick
  • A WSIB clearance certificate: ask whether the mason is registered and whether a clearance applies to your job
  • A written contract with the scope, price and dates; on a direct agreement over $50, such as one signed at home, your 10-day cancellation right under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002
  • For brick or stone steps and other hard-landscaping work: whether the job needs the City's hardscaping contractor licence, and the City's list of licensed hardscaping contractors. The by-law excludes "minor repairs or minor alterations", so ask the City whether your job counts
  • We do not screen or check contractors, so ask these questions yourself before you sign

How Requests Are Sent Your request goes to the Ottawa Construction Network, which passes it on to local masons. They reply to you by email.
Older and Heritage Brick The heritage district plans we read (Centretown and Minto Park, Wilbrod/Laurier, Daly Avenue) call for lime-based mortar when repointing historic brick, and list repointing as regular maintenance that needs no heritage permit; Centretown adds "using heritage methods and materials". Other districts may differ, so check your district's plan, or your designation by-law for an individually designated house. Ottawa's heritage staff can answer questions; their contact details are on ottawa.ca.
